Hardwood Floor

Hardwood flooring looks great, is long-lasting, and is quick to install. The hardwood floor is comprised of solid hardwood material. The boards are nearly an inch thick and are typically milled with a smooth top surface and interlocking edges that hold seamlessly; locking the floorboards together. Though glue can sometimes be used to secure the floorboards, they are typically installed by blind-nailing(a process which hides the nails from sight) the boards to the subfloor through the tongues along the edges of the boards. If the boards are unfinished, the floor can be stained and varnished after the installation is complete. However, prefinished solid hardwood flooring is increasingly preferred.

Laminate Floor

Laminate flooring is manufactured by starting with a core layer of fiberboard made of wood byproducts. Over this is a design layer that is printed to resemble wood or other materials. The design layer is protected by a clear, hard wear layer that offers good resistance to scratching and stains. The floorboards are relatively thin and are manufactured with click-lock edges that snap together to secure the boards. This is a floating floor that requires no nailing or glue.

Vinyl & Linoleum Flooring

Typically mistaken for one another, Vinyl and Linoleum are similar. Both are cost-efficient, tough, long-lasting, and easy to install. However, there are some differences. Vinyl flooring is manufactured by layering materials on top of each other, while linoleum flooring is manufactured by blending a mixture of materials. The way vinyl flooring is made allows for a variety of different texture styles by just switching out the materials that are layered. This process is not possible for linoleum flooring because changing the texture style of linoleum flooring requires changing the ingredients of the mixture before they’re blended into the linoleum flooring. Vinyl flooring has risen in popularity in recent years due to its broad style selection, and durability. It is also cheaper on average.
